The Maruti Suzuki export success story has taken a huge stride in recent years, and the Fronx has been instrumental in this process. Based on the Baleno platform and designed to suit the needs of both domestic and global markets, the Fronx was conceptualized as a premium urban compact SUV for youth customers. The sporty looks of the car, the high ground clearance, and feature-loaded interior make it irresistibly desirable for global buyers seeking compact yet capable SUVs.
The car started exporting just a few weeks after it launched in the domestic market and, in key markets, picked up pretty fast. In Japan, for example, there was strong demand for the Fronx because there were models with ADAS, appeals to the safety-conscious customer.
The export strategy of Maruti Suzuki is an extension to the entire manufacturing strategy of India. Fronx being manufactured in the Gujarat plant and being exported to foreign markets is according to international specifications and one of the key drivers to fulfill foreign orders in an efficient manner. Now the company exports to nearly 100 countries with 17 various models, apart from other best-sellers such as Jimny, Baleno, Swift, and Dzire.
In FY 2024–25, the Fronx was at the forefront of Maruti Suzuki’s record-breaking export figures. The company shipped over 3.3 lakh passenger vehicles — the highest ever — reflecting a year-on-year growth of 17.5%. This performance further solidified India’s growing footprint in the global automotive export market.
This trend picked up with equal vigor in FY 2025–26 quarter one. Maruti Suzuki registered a gross export units of more than 96,000 in the Fronx-dominated quarter. This astronomical number represented nearly half of all Indian passenger vehicle exports for the quarter.
The Fronx milestone is not just a success saga for Maruti Suzuki in itself, but also a strong validation of India as a high-quality automobile manufacturing competitive platform. With government efforts to push the country towards higher exports and the “Make in India” movement gaining traction, the success of Maruti becomes a good benchmark for the remainder of the automobile industry.
