Google to Build Asia’s Largest Data Centre in Andhra Pradesh with ₹52,000 Crore Investment

Largest Data Centre

Key Highlights :

Google’s ₹52,000 crore investment in building a 1 GW hyperscale data centre in Andhra Pradesh.

Direct and indirect employment of 20,000+ jobs.

Green energy focus with ₹16,500 crore (USD 2 billion) for renewable power.

Key Background :

The Andhra Pradesh state, particularly Visakhapatnam, is soon becoming a hub of foreign technology investment. Ever since the state division in 2014 and the exit of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh has been struggling hard to develop infrastructure and policies to accommodate big technology firms. Google’s massive ₹52,000 crore investment comes as a major milestone in this direction and will transform the digital landscape of the region.

The 1-gigawatt data center to be announced will be the anchor tenant in “Data City,” a 500-acre technology hub that is being built up at Vizag’s Madhurawada region. The project will not only accommodate space for Google’s campus but also allied industries such as AI research firms, cloud service firms, digital incubators, and start-ups. Buying 80 acres and signing an MoU with the state is the indicator of Google’s long-term investment in India’s digital economy.

The initiative is also set to create over 20,000 jobs, from construction and IT operations through digital skilling opportunities to sustainability. Andhra Pradesh government plans to work with institutions and training organizations to ensure that state youth possess the skills necessary to contribute to the new digital economy.

A significant aspect of the project is its green energy profile. Out of the overall investment, approximately USD 2 billion will be devoted to renewable energy initiatives to fuel the plant. Andhra Pradesh has existing big solar and wind power generation capacity, and this project will accelerate it further in the direction of clean energy and support Google’s environmental sustainability goals at a worldwide level.

To provide an added depth to connectivity in the world, three undersea cable landing stations are to be developed by the state. They will decentralize and diversify India’s internet backbone, which is very centralized in Chennai and Mumbai. Having this infrastructure at Visakhapatnam is found to reduce latency, increase global data access, and enhance digital resilience.

Part of a broader initiative to be a future-proof digital economy, Andhra Pradesh has already secured 1.6 GW of data center commitments and is seeking to boost that to 6 GW over the next five years. With visionary policies, strategic location, and growing infrastructure, the state is quickly becoming a hub of choice for tech giants from across the world—and Google’s investment is a landmark precedent.
