Piyush Goyal, the minister of commerce and industry, has said that the long-awaited India-US trade deal may be close to being finished. He also stressed that the deal will only go through if it meets India’s standards of fairness and balance. The minister spoke at the Indo-US Economic Summit, which was put on by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce. He stressed that the talks must protect the interests of India’s most important domestic sectors.
Goyal said that a deal will be made public when the terms are fair, just, and balanced. He also said that talks with the United States are still going strong and that the relationship between the two countries is still strategically important for both. He said he didn’t think there would be any problems with engagement slowing down and that the negotiations were still going smoothly.
India–US Trade Pact but Stresses Need for Fair
Goyal told the summit that India’s approach to India–US Trade talks puts the needs of farmers, fishermen, and small businesses first. He said that India values its relationship with the United States, but it must also make sure that any deal is in line with the country’s priorities and protects vulnerable sectors that are important to the country’s social and economic fabric.
The minister said that broad partnerships, like the one between India–US Trade , have many parts that are all connected and move at their own speed. He said that negotiation is an ongoing process and that India needs to find a careful balance between protecting its own interests and moving business forward.
