Key Highlights :

Rolls-Royce opened its biggest Global Capability & Innovation Centre in Bengaluru, accommodating 700.

Karnataka’s aerospace industry, driven by policy and human resources, was one of the major investment drivers.

India’s Global Capability Centre sector is expected to have over 2.1 million jobs in 2025 and go up to 3.5% of GDP by 2030.

Key Background :

Rolls-Royce’s growth in India is an indication of the historic ambition of the group to tap into India’s reservoir of engineering skills and innovation hub. India already boasts a reservoir of talent well over 3,000 employees that can be tapped by Rolls-Royce, and with its new Bengaluru base, the group will further extend its global R&D, engineering, and digital transformation strength.

Bengaluru, or the aerospace capital of India as it is popularly referred to, has fostered a strong ecosystem with government efforts, research and development establishments, multinational companies, start-ups, and government support. The Karnataka aerospace and defence policy has played an important role in shaping the milieu, offering incentives and patronage that have a tendency to attract world players.

The Karnataka aerospace and defence ecosystem is characterised by several leading companies in the form of Boeing, Airbus, Collins Aerospace, Wipro, and Mahindra Aerospace. These organisations, including other cutting-edge startups like Pixxel, have activities across propulsion, structural systems, as well as satellite technology, thereby creating a culture of ongoing innovation.

The increasing expansion of Global Capability Centres in India is contributing to this momentum. From around 1.5 million workers in 2020, GCC jobs are anticipated to hit more than 2.1 million in 2025. In 2030, the centres will contribute to up to 3.5% of the GDP of India, marking their strategic value to multinational companies as well as that of India’s economy.

Rolls-Royce’s move to open its largest GCC in Bengaluru is along this expansion path. It places the company in a position to access local talent while being part of India’s vision to become a hub for aerospace innovation in the world.

The seasoned government delegation and global business leaders at the inauguration confirm the importance of the centre. They underscore the way global businesses are increasingly mainstreaming India into long-term plans for research, innovation, and high-end engineering.
